I love weekends, except when......

my husband leaves me!  Boo.  :(  I must say, I am used to it by now (he is the scout master) but I still don't like it.  I kinda like the guy and my weekends with him are precious.

Lets start out with yesterday.  I went to the gym in the morning and lifted chest hard!  I am sore.  But I also skipped out on cardio.  So....tonight I plan on going for a run.  Now that I said it I have to do it right?  If anyone wants to join me I would love the company.

I have eaten like crap the last 24 hours.  But I am cutting myself some slack because I was sulking.  Remember the husband was leaving me?

I came home from the gym yesterday and made the biggest pumpkin pancake I have ever seen.  That is a full size plate and the thing filled it right up.  I topped it with a thin layer of plain greek yogurt and some pumpkin pie spice.  I only ate about half of it before my little guy wanted it and he finished the rest.  He is always stealing my food.

Then it was off to the store to get food for the hubs.  Have any of you tried this snack mix for your kids?  Goodbye goldfish....hello bunnies.  We have had the other bunnies before (the plain cheddar, chocolate, honey, etc) but have never tried this snack mix.  The flavor is sooo good.  It has pretzels and two kinds of cheddar bunnies.  It is for my kids but I sneak it sometimes.  :)  The ingredients are not bad either considering it comes in a box.

Back to the shopping trip.  I bought my husband so much food he didn't want to pack it all.  They were backpacking and anyone who has ever been backpacking knows it is best to pack light.  I told him I bought so much because c'mon, he was going with twelve year olds who have no idea how to pack let alone how much.  He called my from the top of this mountain about noon today praising me and my abilities.  He fed two extra boys who brought almost nothing to eat for the 24 hours they would be gone.  Isn't the scout motto "be prepared?"  Moms are prepared people...not scouts.

I ate a protein bar at the store that was so sweet I wanted to die.  It was not that great but I was starving and it did the trick.

For lunch I ate healthy because I was in the middle of making s'more bars...again for the scouts, and kept picking at them.  I also knew I was going out that night so I tried to eat somewhat of a healthy lunch.  2 egg whites, cottage cheese, and veggies.

I stole the corner.  Worth. every. bite.  I always still the edges.  They are the best part and I will fight people for them.  I will.  So don't push me.  I will post this recipe tomorrow along with the pumpkin pancake recipe.

My dinner.  I don't think I can say much else.  It was amazing.  My sweet neighbor got sitters for the both us, (her husband was on the same excursion) and we went out.  I had a great time although I probably talked her ear off and didn't let her get two words in.  Sorry Suzanne!  We went to a local restaurant that uses all fresh and in season produce.  I got the braised short rib on polenta with horseradish sauce.  I have ordered this before and I will have it again.  But I did try something new...ciabatta bread with beets and yogurt sauce.  So so good.  I was in heaven.  I know beets are kind of an acquired taste and I have for sure acquired it. Suzanne also loves beets and our husbands don't...we were meant to be friends.

She also got the braised short rib and then she ordered the grilled corn on the cob that I have been wanting to try.  It was probably the best thing I have ever eaten in my whole existence.  Really.  I need to go back three times a week for the drenched in butter and salt grilled corn.  Yum!  I enjoyed every bite and let myself just enjoy it.  My husband would be proud.

After dinner I ran to get the hubs these...so he has a surprise waiting for him when he comes home.  I bought a pair not too long ago and have really been impressed with them.  He has been wanting them ever since.

Then Suzanne convinced me to go see a movie.  I must be a good friend because I detest movie theaters.  I like to be snuggled up on my couch with treats of my choice, a snuggle buddy, and a pause/rewind button.  I do not like being around people who are commenting, chewing popcorn, chomping ice, opening candy..etc.  I know I sound like a bratty weirdo.  However....I do enjoy going occasionally to change things up.  I was actually excited to go this time.  You should have heard the people we sat by.  After every preview they would boldly and loudly ask everyone in the theater what they thought about it?  They commented the whole movie...loudly.  I'm serious...like they were trying to get the people in the theater to agree/disagree with their opinions.  I so wished I had a taser.  Boom!  Take em right out.  But at least the movie was good.  Suzanne, I really did have fun....I promise.

Breakfast this morning was toast with almond butter and bananas.  I made oatmeal for the kiddos but the little guy wanted mine.  Again....

He is happy now that he has my food.  He was a mess.

trailmix, chocolate, and crackers.  Fabulous.  Come home darling so I can stop sulking!!!

What ya lookin at under that car?

Oh, this little guy.  We some him run in from the street and under the car.  So we went to investigate and there he was.  He hung out in that general area for about ten minutes before we went inside.  He may still be there now.

Neighbors beware!  I actually thought he was adorable and secretly wanted to catch him and name him Dennis just like my three year olds stuffed rat that she adores.  But this was just a mouse.  And I figured he was best out of my house.  If I saw him inside my house all his adorableness would disappear in an instant and he would be evil, nasty, and doomed to death.  Period.

Wish me luck on my run.  Something tells me I am not going to want to go come eight o clock pm.  :)

protein pumpkin muffins

I made these a while back and still need to post the recipe!  These were really yummy and had sort of a cheesecake texture.  Not sure why but I wasn't complaining.  Here is what I did:

Mix together:

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oat flour
1/2 cup coconut flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 egg whites
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 Tbs. melted coconut oil
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
heaping tsp. of pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
15 oz. can of pumpkin
1/2 cup agave nectar
3 Tbs. truvia
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or till desired consistency)
3 scoops vanilla protein powder
*I just mixed everything together all at once.  Lots of ingredients but so easy to make.
Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes give or take.
I wouldn't call these a treat but they are definitely a great snack to have on hand.

Look at this version from allrecipes.com...only 5 ingredients!!!  They look yummy too.  Some people used spiced cake mix instead of yellow.  I would have done the same...or carrot!  I'll have to try this one out.  Easy peasy.

You're never going to believe this.....

Lets start with the workout and get it out of the way...I dd this gpp workout today:

AMRAP in 25 min of:
25 KB juggles 25/35
25 tick-tocks R 25/35
25 tick-tocks L 25/35
25 V-ups
25 back ext
25 Aussie pullups

Then I wanted to focus on just legs since I haven't done that in awhile.  Here's what I did:

100 walking lunges

Squats on smith machine-15 (add more weight each set)
Bridges-20 (add a dumbbell on hip for more intensity)
Jumping sumo squats-15 (holding a 25 pd plate)
*Repeat 3 times

Barbell deadlifts-15
Single leg lunge on ball-15 each leg
Sled-10 (use really heavy weight)
*Repeat 3 times

Wall sit- 1 minute
Glutes/Hamstrings prone on ball with weight between feet-15
*Repeat 3 times

To finish off I did thirty minutes of sprints.  One minute off, one minute on, for thirty minutes.  My sprints were at a 9.5 today.  I was a sweaty mess and my legs were tired!

Breakfast was the usual protein shake with a little piece of what I like to call "post workout chocolate cake."  Gasp!  Cake for breakfast?  It is full of whole grains and protein.  I'm not worried about it people.

Snack was dehydrated apple chips dipped in peanut butter.....this was so good.  I felt like I was eating dessert once again.

*Yes, I ate more than one sleazy apple chip with pb.  More like twenty.  :)

See that fat little thing sneaking a peek at the camera below?  Well today it was his first birthday.  That is my twin brothers little boy Hank (aka, hank the tank, hankopotomus, hankie panky, hankster).  Happy Birthday buddy!!!

I got to go up and help his mommy make his cake.  She wanted a monster theme going on so here is what we pulled out of our arses.  A crazy cyclops...and cookie monster cupcakes.  I could not get the monsters eye right for the life of me.  I was kinda on one today.  Here's the part your not going to believe....at his party there was peanut m&m's, riesens, (my husband ate about 75 of these and claims it is my fault because I introduced them to him.  Right, just like I introduced Lindsay Lohan to alcohol) airheads, salt water taffy, popcorn, soda, cupcakes, ice cream, and dunford chocolate donuts.  I ate one...yes one, peanut m&m, and about a fourth a cup of diet soda.  That is so not me who loves the suga but I was so stoked.

However, I did eat this baby while the cake making was going on.  Whoever invented rainbow chip frosting should go straight to heaven.  Combine any frosting with honey grahams=pure taste bud bliss.  It was a total party in my mouth.

I did convince myself to eat some real food while baking so I whipped up 4 egg whites, threw them on corn tortillas with homemade salsa and I had myself a yummy lunch!

I had about ten more pieces of healthified chocolate cake topped with peanut butter while making dinner.  Ok, maybe not ten but pretty close.

Dinner was a chicken sandwich with a side of fresh tomatoes.  I stuffed this down before running out the door to the party.

I suck at doing any sort of braid on myself and finally just learned how to french braid my girls hair.  It is no easy task for me.  When I accomplished this braid today (do I dare say I thought it was easy as well) I was proud of myself and had to brag.  I mastered a braid!  Hallelujah.

Fall

Unfortunately I was up at about 4:00 am this morning.  My baby got his shots yesterday and was not feeling the best.  I got him out of bed and brought him to bed with me.  I finally rolled out of bed about 4:35 and got ready to hit the gym.  Gpp today was shoulders but since I worked those yesterday I skipped it and did my own thing.  Here is today's workout:

Body ball push ups-15
Push-ups-till failure
Cable leg extensions-15 each leg
Step plyos-one minute
*do all four things fast then rest 30 seconds

Dumbell press on ball-15
Half crow push ups-10
Harpies-20
Jump squats-15
Warrior pose with tricep hold-30 seconds each leg
*Do all fast then rest 30 seconds

Dips-failure
Hanging abs-15 each side
Static lunge with lateral shoulder raise-10 each side
Side step plyos-one minute
*Do all of these fast then 30 second rest

Pike pushup-20
Squats with glute raise-10 each leg
Dropsies-10 each leg
Jump rope- one minute
*Fast...then rest
**This workout is a workout from Jillian Micheal's "Making the cut."

Bench dips with feet in TRX-20
Bicycle crunches on TRX-100
Scorpion pushups-30

Then I did three set of this:

Push ups on the TRX-10
Tricep extension on pulley-15 each arm
Tricep kickback on pulley-15 each arm
Sprint-one minute

I finished off weights with some abs on the TRX and wood choppers on the pulley.

For cardio:
One mile stairmaster
One mile row
One mile stairstepper (I did this backwards so I could talk to my gym girls behind me on there machines).  :)

Breakfast was two scoops protein, kale, 1/2 a banana, ice, and water blended to perfection.

I was up at my parents at snack time and my mom had homemade salsa.  This stuff was drinkable.  So I happily had some chips and salsa for my snack.  That is how many chips are in one serving.  I counted them out and ate one serving then I put the bag away!  If the bag stays out...I will eat them all.  Once the bag is out of sight it is out of mind.  It was a fabulous snack and.....

My madre let me fill up a Tupperware to take home with me!  Hooray....thanks mom!  I'm in love with it obviously.

Lunch was 4 egg whites and 1 yolk on a toasted whole wheat sandwich thin.  I toasted the bread, put a little smart balance and honey on it then threw on the eggs.  It hit the spot.  I was craving toast!

My afternoon snack will be a blender bottle shake..(just a scoop of protein and water) and then we are going out tonight!  Bring on the food!

I am in love with this multi color chevron design!  These are my feet made awesome looking by Jamberry Nails.  This is one of the many cute new fall designs!  Love, love, love!

Have any of you tried Jillian Micheal's workouts?  Did you like it?
*I love her workouts...she kicks my trash.

Do you like fall or spring more?
* I can't decide...I just love the change in seasons!

This morning I slept in till 7:15.  Sad.  When 7:15 means sleeping in that's a shame.  Tomorrow I will be back up at 4:45.  I made myself some vanilla peach oatmeal.
1/4 cup oats
1/2 scoop vanilla protein
1 big juicy peach sliced up

Yum!  I did take a picture but it looked like vomit so I didn't post it.

However, I did post the picture of me with no make-up and sick hair that I had to cover with a hat.  We were in a hurry and all the sudden it was time for gymnastics.  I threw on some moisturizer and a hat and called it good.  I grabbed a snack on the way out the door.  An apple and some trail mix.  I realize that is a buttload of trail mix.  I didn't eat all of it.

My husband came home at lunch and did my workout with me today.  Before he got here I ran a quick 3 1/2 miles on the treadmill.  Then we worked deltoids and abs .  Here is what we did:

Overhead press 20
Upright row 20
External rotations 20
Crossover lateral raises 20 each arm
High Sumos 20
*Do all five without rest and then rest 30 seconds.  Repeat 4 times!

Bicycle crunches 100
Leg raises 20
Hollow rocks (from gpp) 30 seconds
Tick Tocks 25 each side
* No rest between sets.  Repeat three times!

Afterwards we shared a Protein shake and a awesome salad.  Lettuce, turkey, walnuts, peppers, carrots, tomatoes, and a little cottage cheese.  We topped it off with Balsamic Vinegar for the dressing.

We had a school carnival to attend tonight so I made myself a quick dinner before we left so I wouldn't have to eat there.  Just an egg white breakfast burrito with onions, peppers, and salsa.  I had a fresh garden tomato on the side sprinkled with sea salt.  Fresh tomatoes are the best!

Don't ya worry....still ate at the carnival.  Just not as much.  :)

Wonder woman

Yesterday was the Wonder Woman ride.  My sister talked me into signing up for the century a couple of months ago.  I said yes.  However, I am secretly scared of my bike.  I told myself I would go on a couple rides before the race....that never happened.  I am scared I'll crash or get hit by a car...really.  So much so that I did not go on one ride before this race.  That is not an exaggeration.

It came down to about a week before the race and I told my sister I would come to the race but act as if I was a pacer for her.  I would go until I felt done and then I would call the hubby and he would come pick me up.  I  know I am in shape but when you are doing something new it always works different muscles than your used to so I thought for sure I would be dying by mile thirty.  I made a goal in my mind to do at least fifty miles.

My pre race fuel.  Oatmeal with almond butter, bananas, and pecans.

We got to the race and my sister called our friend who was also doing it.  Well she ended up being with three other ladies who are "bikers."  They know all the biking signs and lingo and I am a retard at all of that.  I was freaking out because I did not want to ride with these people and be left behind or "in the way" somehow.  They were all really nice ladies, just a lot more experienced than me.  I'm thinking at this point....dang, I should have trained.  So now it is not just riding with my sister but with a lot of experienced bikers.  Poo.  This is one conversation that went down about mile nine:

Experienced lady: "So Lyndsey, do you pace?"
Me: "I don't even bike."
Experienced lady: "Well, stay in the back then."
Me: "Gladly."
I didn't pace then, but I sure do now!

Getting ready to start...not wanting to get out the car in the freezing cold!

Miles 0-32  We start out and my quads start screaming at me like what the crap are you doing?  I'm not kidding...ten miles in and I was done.  I wanted to quit.  I was well behind the others although I could still see them.  My sister was feeling bad for me.  I was cursing myself for not training.  When I thought we had gone almost thirty miles I asked my sister how far we had gone.  She says thirteen!  Thirteen?!  I'm thinking wtf are you guys thinking?  I was dying and they still had 87 miles left to go?  I told myself I was going to call the hubby at the twenty mile stop and be done.  Well, we made it to the stop and I was feeling a little more warmed up.  We had a twelve mile loop that ended back at that same spot so I told myself I would those twelve miles and re-evaluate how I was feeling.  I got a little caffeine in my system and kept going.  By the time twelve miles was up I was feeling a lot better and keeping pace just fine.  I told myself I could do fifty.
Miles 32-55  These miles flew by and I felt great the whole time!  I'm thinking to myself, "wow...maybe I just needed to warm up."  We got to go through a beautiful canyon and this was the only place on the race without a horrible headwind.  I am not kidding.  The whole race was headwind central.  Pretty soon we were at the lunch stop.  After the lunch stop was a fourteen mile loop that brought you back to that stop...so we did it before lunch and got it out of the way.  We stopped and ate, and ate, and ate.  I ate two sandwiches and so much fruit.  Oh man...just what my body needed.  We took forever at lunch though!  We were stopped for almost an hour and I was worried my body was going to cool down and not want to get moving again. I just wanted to go!  By this point I was half way....so c'mon, calling the hubs was out of the question.  I was finishing this thing.
Miles 55-70 I kept feeling great.  I was really surprised actually.  We had another stop int his section and I just wanted to keep going but we ended up stopping.  I really just wanted to finish this dang race and fast.  My sister was having a great day too and didn't feel tired in the least so the next time we pulled ahead we didn't stop and wait.  We just kept riding.
Miles 70-100  We flew those thirty miles.  It was just me and sister so we got to talk and take turns drafting off each other.  We didn't have to stop for stuff we just rode hard.  The last ten miles I think there were three hills.  Nice.  And a super strong headwind.  Nice.  However...in the last ten miles we passed 12 people and no one passed us.  We were on fire.  I was proud of myself.  I was proud of my sister.  I'm glad I got to finish with her by my side.  I might have teared up just a smidge.  The other 4 ladies came in about a half hour after us.  You bet we were there to cheer them on.

Am I sore today you ask?  No!  Which is crazy sauce cuz I totally expected to be.  My knee is a little stiff and so are my hips but muscle wise I'm good.  I just have old lady joints.  :)

Ps.....I will post more pics when my sis emails them to me.  Christy????  Email me the pics.
