Wasatch 100 finisher!

I admit, I did not sleep very well last night.  It was like Christmas.  I was so excited to go see this guy finish!  We left about 5 am to head up to The Homestead in Midway.  First let me just say that this kid went to being addicted from other things that are not good for your body and became addicted to running.   Awesome.  He has not been running very long.  He placed 23 overall!  OVERALL!  He rocked that race no problem and looked great at the finish.  I am so glad that he has found something he can do that he enjoys so much and keeps him focused.  I can relate, I have the same addictive personality and exercise is my drug of choice.  I literally go through withdrawals when I don't get enough!  Ahhhhh, it's great.

A strong finish.  No limping, crying, or walking.  He felt great.

I must say I was so disappointed at the finish they had for these runners.  I know its the middle of the night for half of them or early morning but it was just a couple of people hanging out.  Don't get me wrong....they all cheered for the runners coming in but I felt like there needed to be a live band and a dunkin tank or something.  Right?  Am I right?  I think they should party that finish line up.  Just sayin.

"Yes, I'm tired.  No I do not want to eat.  Yes, take me home."  Ok Seth, hop in the trunk because we don't want your stinky body in our car. :)

Stretching it out or picking a wedgie....can't really tell.  I'm leaning towards the wedgie.  Congratulations Seth.

On our drive home my sister called and begged me to meet her at the mouth of the canyon for a run.  I did have my running shoes on, and a sports bra under my clothes.  I was in baggy sweats but I figured what the heck.  I had just eaten a protein bar.  I didn't really want too but I am so glad I did.  We did a six mile run, mostly on trails.  It felt great once we were done....Ok, it felt pretty good during as well.

I called my hubby on the way home to put in my order for a protein shake.  He made me a ginormous smoothie that was waiting on the counter when I got home.  What a saint.

How attractive is this picture?  I don't know what the H my arms are doing but see how big my shake was?  That was the goal.  Not so obvious, I know.

Lunch was an amazing spinach salad with strawberries, blueberries, walnuts, egg whites, and chicken.  I mixed up a little balsamic dressing to have on top.  But.......

I needed something sweet and my neighbor brought over my most favorite dessert in the whole world so I had a little.  Mint chocolate chip ice cream, cookies and cream ice cream, toasted coconut, marshmellowy hot fudge sauce, and an mint oreo crust/topping.  Oh my lands.  I love it.  I shared this with my husband but we hid it from the kids.  Of course.

I just wanted to show you how many pears we picked today.  I can't wait till they are ripe and I can eat them straight out of the box.  But I have no idea how we are going to eat so many.  I will be giving pears away like crazy.

Dinner was an egg white breakfast burrito with spinach, salsa, and a little chicken on a La Tortilla Factory tortilla.  I had a side of tomatoes with dip as well.
*I know those don't look like egg whites and your all thinking, "ya right....that is straight yokes.  I mean look how yellow they are."  The truth is...dun dun dun, sometimes I get lazy and use the egg white substitute from Costco.  It's just so easy.  And I have no idea why its so yellow if its 99.9% egg whites.

Tomorrow is Sunday and I will be posting a couple of recipes!  Hooray.

The weekend is here!

I started out the weekend by sleeping in till 7 am!  It was awesome.  I got up, made breakfast, and got the little one off to school.  For breakfast we had waffles made with w.w. flour, coconut flour, and oat flour.  They were yummy.  I had half a waffle and two eggs whites.  Then I did gpp from home.

Four rounds of:
20 BTB squats  (squats that begin and end in the bottom of the movement)
rest 30 sec. between rounds.
then,
Four rounds per side of:
20 SLD 15/20
rest 30 sec. between rounds.
then,
Four rounds of:
20 heel raises
rest 30 sec. between rounds.

then,
200 walking lunges

I finished off with a few abs.  It was hard.  My legs were on fire.  I made myself a quick protein shake after.  Straight coconut water, ice, and chocolate protein.  It was perfect. *Notice my messy kitchen table?  I'm just keeping it real people.

I was then gone until three pm!  I did not plan well which isn't like me and I did not do well either.  I had a couple cocoa almonds and two waffle fries out of my kids kidsmeal, but that's all until three!  I was dying.  I had a horrible headache and I was seriously losing my mind.  :)  I got on the freeway going north when I wanted to go south...then finally got going the right way and missed my exit.  My HOME exit that I always get off.  Haha....I was a mess.  I'm telling ya...I don't do well without my food!  To top it all off I had to pee reeeaaalllyyyy bad.  :)  I made it home and made myself a chicken, egg white, spinach sandwich.  Finally....food!

It was soooo yummy but didn't quite satisfy so I topped it off with a chocolate banana protein muffin and a big glass of water.  Happy tummy!

I got to go out on a hot date tonight with this guy.  We headed out to sushi and left the kids for 4 hours or so.  It was so great to have "us" time.  Not the best pic but the only one that kind of turned out,

I love me some good sushi.  I asked if they had any rice-less rolls.  They didn't, but put "less" rice on.  I picked most of it off.  Not all of it, I'm not that crazy.  I still enjoyed it.

My husband loves spicy things and tempura.  Tuna filled, tempura dipped, stuffed jalapenos!  He was in heaven.  I have to say, they were pretty amazing.  Sorry for the blurry pic.

All good dates end with dessert and this did not disappoint.  I have never had Golden Grahams on my fro-yo and I wish every place had them.  They perfected it.

*My friend Seth is killing the Wasatch 100.  He is doing really well and in about 25th place.  I am so proud of him.  So proud.  What an accomplishment!  It is going to be a great weekend!

Wasatch 100!!!

Today is the day!

Good luck to every runner out there accomplishing this amazing goal!

A special shout out to my good friend Seth...he is going to rock it!

Just keep running!!

I am sore

This whole week my alarm has been going off at 4:50 am.  I hope I can adjust to this early work out schedule.  I thought my schedule before was early but not like this.  I seriously go to bed at eight thirty every night.  My workout today went something along the lines of this:

BB Bicep curls (7 bottom to half, 7 half to top, seven full)
Standing lat pull downs with straight arms-15
Abs on lat pulldown machine (I'll have to post a video to this sometime)-15
* I did three rounds of this with a sprint in between each round

BB back rows-15
DB bicep curls-15
Reverse fly's-15
*Again, three rounds with a sprint between each round

Back extensions-20
Hanging abs-10 center, 10 each side
Tick-tocks-20 each side
*I did two round of this

Then came gpp:
5 rounds for time:
10 manimals (see below)
400 m. run

It was tough but it felt great.  That combined with the trail run that was straight up, and spin yesterday...my legs are a tinsy bit sore.

I had to take a picture of the family's protein shakes.  :)  My kids always want one with their breakfast and so does the hubby.  We go through a lot of protein!

7:00 am...chocolate peanut butter oatmeal.
1/3 cup raw oats
1 scoop chocolate protein
1 Tb peanut butter = a perfect chocolatey breakfast for a time of the monther. * I also ate half an oatmeal raisin cookie.  dang.

10:00 am..half and apple and string cheese.

12:30 pm...4 egg whites, peppers, cilantro, salsa in a La Tortilla Factory wrap.

1:30 pm...a chocolate protein banana muffin....recipe coming soon!
3:30 pm...a small bowl of Kashi Crunch
5:30 pm...what I call a Fajita salad.  Sauteed chicken, peppers, corn, over lettuce.  Add on a side of salsa and 1 Tbs fat free sour cream and it was delicious.  Oh..dont forget the green beans!  I was hungry all day today.  I hate being a girl sometimes.

waaayyyy behind!

I am so behind on blogging.  We took a little road trip this weekend to the grand old Idaho for my dad's 60th birthday.  No, my parents do not live there but my dad was born a cowboy and farms a lot of land there.  So he is a CFO during the week and a farmer on the weekends.  We went up to surprise him with a little party and all the husbands helped him build a new fence.  My dad is the best, really....the best.  We left Friday, stayed overnight and came home Saturday.  I brought snacks for the car and some food but by Saturday night I felt like I had eaten pretty crappy.

In the car on the way up.  We enjoyed beef jerky, crackers and peanut butter, and string cheese.  We always take a road trip self portrait of the two of us.

When we pulled into town we stopped at a Greek restaurant for dinner.  Yum!

I enjoyed an awesome salad and some chicken skewers.  Then got back to the hotel and ate a pound of my trailmix granola.  I was pre-menstrual OK?

The kids love the farms because of all the fun stuff to play on/with.  Horses, cows, dogs, haystacks, tractors, etc.  The list goes on.  They had such a good time.

Coming home on Saturday was crazy.  I left my husband up there to finish some work and I drove home with my sister and the kids.  Lets just say this pms-ey girl ate lots of sugar on the way home.  I felt like crap and I deserved it.  For Sunday dinner when we were home again I made grilled chicken, sauteed zucchini and mushrooms, salad, and homemade whole grain naan bread.  I have got to post this recipe.  It was so great!

For labor day we were going to go boating but the weather wasn't looking to promising.  So we decided to go to a movie.  I was prepared with healthy popcorn, grapes, and water for the show.  However, when we got there it was insanely packed so we took our snacks to the park and played.  Still had a great day.  I got to go for a trail run then hit the gym that morning and it felt great.

Hope everyone had a great labor day!

Trailmix Granola

Here are the ingredients I used.  You can always switch it up to how you like it but here it was I did:

Mix together:
2 Tbs water
2Tbs coconut oil
3 Tbs agave
1 Tsp vanilla
1/4 cup peanut or almond butter

Then stir in:
4 cups raw oats
2/3 cups raisins
1/4 cup nuts *
3 Tbs flaxseeds

Mix this together really well and spread out evenly on a cookie sheet.  Bake at 275 for 45 minutes stirring every minutes.  *I added my nuts the last fifteen minutes only.

Here where I can't decide if I went right or wrong.  I melted a fourth a cup of dark chocolate chips and put them in a bag...cut off the corner, and drizzled all over the granola.  Next time I think I will just throw in the chocolate whole or Leave it out.  It was super yummy though!

 See...yummy!

While it was baking I hard boiled a zillion eggs to have on hand at a moments notice.  :)
